On Sunday, Nov 10th 2019, Laura and Guteri joined Herbalife Bali International Triathlon (HBIT) 2019. Laura is the daughter of one of the Seven Seas’ owners, and Guteri is the one asking you to fill in your booking form! 😊
In August this year while heading for Alor we had the privilege of sighting and following a pod of tropical orcas just south of Pantar Island, East of Flores. We stayed with the pod for over an hour. There were 2 males, 2 females and a calf.
We will be offering a few trips per year, in different parts of Indonesia, specifically geared to snorkeling, perhaps with diving on the side. Perhaps also offering an introduction to diving onboard for snorkelers who would like to progress to diving should there be interest to do so.
This October I was leading a two weeks snorkeling trip all around Komodo and including a quick visit to Sumbawa. As many of our trips are dive trips or mixed trips (snorkeling-diving), this pure snorkeling trip was a new experience: I loved it.
Our combination trips to the East of Flores, Sumbawa and Komodo never cease me to amaze me. During our recent trip we sailed almost 550 miles, heading first to the East until Alor, then back to the West until Komodo, with a detour around Sumbawa.
One never knows what chance sightings will arise on any given snorkel or dive so it’s a treasure hunt every time you jump in the water. A particularly memorable sighting is now emblazoned on my brain from a snorkel in August over “The Crack”.
Lida shares some short info stories every now and then, we hope you like them. This one is about Indonesian aquaculture.
Why are these combination trips so interesting for underwater photography and videography? The Seven Seas’ cruise director Alex del Olmo tells you.
Us few snorkelers had our own reward in a bittersweet way. Seeing a small manta (1.5-2 m) with a strange series of white lines marking its back, I free dived down and noticed deep cuts in the left wing. The second dive down I found a long monofilament fishing line trailing behind it.
From laying on the ocean floor and looking up to see giant trevallies passing by at fish bowl, to snorkeling with manta rays up close, to going on my first night dive – these are memories I’ll cherish forever.
